Israeli Prime Minister: Lebanon and Syria share responsibility for Hezbollah attacks

On 28 January, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu underlined that ‘The Lebanese government and the Assad regime share responsibility for the consequences of the attacks emanating from their territories against the State of Israel,’ the Jerusalem Post reports.

The statement was made following an attack that recently took place, when the Lebanese militant Hezbollah group fired a salvo of missiles at an Israeli military convoy, allegedly killing two soldiers and a UN peacekeepers and injuring seven other soldiers, according to the New York Times.

The Telegram reports that tensions had been building up for days in the triangle of territory between Israel, Lebanon and Syria, as Israel prepared itself for a potential retaliation concerning its airstrike on 18 January, when an Israeli drone killed six Hezbollah fighters, including the son of the group’s slain military commander, Imad Mughniyeh, and an Iranian general.
