New intelligence on role of high government officials of UK, France and US concerning the fall of Srebrenica

New research of intelligence documents suggests that high government officials of the United Kingdom, France and the United States of America allowed Mladic and his army to proceed to the safe area of Srebrenica in 1995, while being aware of the risk of humanitarian disaster.

Thousands of Muslim men were consequently killed and the International Court of Justice and International Criminal Court later characterised the events as genocide. This begs the question whether these three states could be held legally responsible for a failure to prevent Genocide under Article 1 of the Genocide Convention.

The Netherlands has already been held responsible before its domestic courts for the eviction of Muslim men from a compound in Srebrenica by the Dutch troop contingency Dutchbat and their role in the evacuation of refugees, because Dutchbat was aware of the serious risk of genocide of the men being separated and carried off.
