Arab League pledges to cooperate with all international and regional efforts in the fight against ISIS

Ten NATO states form coalition to fight the Islamic State

On 5 September, at the conclusion of the NATO summit in Wales, President Obama announced that nine NATO allies have agreed to join the US in order to form a coalition to fight the Islamic State. (more…)

Seven NATO states to create a new rapid reaction force

According to the Daily Mail, Britain is to spearhead a 10,000-strong NATO joint expeditionary force, aimed at bolstering the West’s capabilities in response to Russia’s recent actions in Ukraine. Other countries involved at the present time include Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway and the Netherlands. Canada has also expressed an interest in taking part. (more…)

Ongoing conflict in Syria failure of international community

The number of people killed in Syria is double the number documented a year ago, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay announced, criticising the international community for its failure to stop the ‘killers, destroyers and torturers’ that have torn the country apart. (more…)

Egypt and U.A.E. strike in Libya leaving the Obama administration on the sides

The New York Times reports that according to senior U.S. officials, in a regional power struggle set off by Arab Spring revolts, Egypt and The United Arab Emirates (U.A.E.) have launched two series of airstrikes against Islamist-allied militias in a bid for control over Tripoli, Libya. The first strikes took place on the 18th of August before dawn, with the second being launched on Saturday the 25th . (more…)
