Annemarieke Vermeer-Künzli is Legal Counsel at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands. She is also affiliated with the SHARES Project, where her research focuses on State Responsibility, and notably concerns the duty of non-recognition of serious violations of peremptory norms, as stipulated in Article 41 of the Draft Articles on State Responsibility.

She previously was Assistant Professor of international law at the University of Amsterdam and Assistant Professor in public international law at Leiden University. At Leiden University, she also defended her PhD in 2007, entitled The Protection of Individuals by means of Diplomatic Protection, which was supervised by Prof. John Dugard.
