SHARES Debate: External Processing of Asylum Seekers outside the EU: Out of Sight, Out of Mind?
On Monday 3 December, the second SHARES Debate is organized in cooperation with SPUI25, the academic centre of the University of Amsterdam.
SHARES Debates are organized throughout the year to provide a platform for discussions with a broader audience on questions of shared responsibility.
This debate, entitled External Processing of Asylym Seekers outside the EU: Out of Sight, Out of Mind? will address the possibility of external processing of asylum seekers outside the territory of the European Union, and whether the policy proposals on external processing of asylum seekers provide a basis for the ‘sharing’ or ‘shifting’ of responsibility.
The panel consists of:
- Theo Veenkamp, author of the report People Flow, former director of the Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers, and former director of strategy at the Dutch Ministry of Justice.
- Judith Sargentini, head of the delegation of GroenLinks in the European Parliament and member of the Commission on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs where she deals with matters pertaining to migration and asylum.
- Maarten den Heijer, Assistant Professor of International Law at the University of Amsterdam. His research interests include international and European asylum and immigration law.
- Chair: Marjoleine Zieck, Professor of International Refugee Law at the University of Amsterdam and Vice-Dean education at the Faculty of Law.
