SHARES Lecture: ‘Beyond the Black Box of the State: Shared Responsibility and the Federated Entity under International Law’, by Gleider Hernández

On Thursday 12 December 2013, Dr. Gleider I. Hernández will give a lecture entitled: ‘Beyond the Black Box of the State: Shared Responsibility and the Federated Entity under International Law’.

Dr. Gleider Hernández is lecturer at Durham University, where he is member of the Human Rights Centre, and of the research groups Islam, Law and Modernity and Law and Conflict. He is also a member of the Academic Review Board of the Cambridge Journal of International and Comparative Law.

He has been working as Associate Legal Officer at the International Court of Justice from 2007-2010, and acted as Law Clerk to Judge Peter Tomka and Judge Bruno Simma from 2008-2010. At the University of Oxford, he worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (2005-2007) and Teaching Fellow at the Environmental Change Institute (2006-2007), where he lectured in international environmental law. Gleider Hernández was a senior editor of the Oxford University Commonwealth Law Journal from 2006-2007. He has practised as a barrister and solicitor in public and administrative law at the law firm Fasken Martineau DuMoulin LLP (Montreal, Canada) until 2004.

Gleider Hernández holds a D.Phil from the University of Oxford. His dissertation on the international judicial function from the perspective of the International Court of Justice will be published by Oxford University Press. He holds an LL.M (cum laude) from Leiden University (the Netherlands) and BCL and LL.B degrees from McGill University (Canada).
