Syrian Ministers share responsibility and consequences for repressions against civilians
On 20 October 2014 the European Union targeted 12 Syrian government ministers, two senior military figures and a United Arab Emirates company accused of helping supply oil to Syria, with sanctions comprising of an asset freeze and, for the individuals listed, a travel ban.
According to Reuters, the EU said the 12 ministers appointed by Assad in a cabinet reshuffle in August, shared “responsibility for the regime’s violent repression against the civilian population”.
In addition, according to a press release issued by the Council of the European Union, the Council reached a political agreement on imposing an export ban on jet fuel and relevant additives being exported to Syria, which are used for indiscriminate air attacks against civilians.
