Deputy-Secretary-General underscored collective responsibility to prevent atrocity crimes at launch of new UN tool to prevent atrocity crimes

Ban Ki-moon: UN and OSCE have a shared role in managing regional challenges

On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon addressed the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). The Secretary-General stressed the importance of partnerships between the United Nations and the OSCE in navigating trans-regional crises such as civil conflicts, terrorism, trafficking and political divisions. UN relief official: massive scale-up of assistance needed for countries impacted by ongoing Syria crisis

Saying the ongoing civil war in Syria and its spillover effects continue to inflict a devastating human and humanitarian toll on neighbouring countries, John Ging, Operations Director for the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, made a strong plea on behalf of the neighbouring countries Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as Turkey.
